1 killed, 1 seriously injured in Dodge County crash Monday

Jan. 3—ELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Minn. — A West Concord woman was killed and a Dodge Center woman was seriously injured in a crash Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, near West Concord.

A 2019 Toyota Hylander was westbound on Dodge County Road 24 when it collided head-on with an eastbound 2017 Ford Expedition near the intersection with 120th Avenue around 7:45 a.m., according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

Both vehicles started on fire.

The driver of the Toyota, Scarlett Tanner, 32, of West Concord, and a passerby who stopped to assist, Erin Irene Brose, 46, of Dodge Center, were standing outside the vehicles when a pickup truck and trailer drove into the crash scene and entered the south ditch.

The pickup truck struck Tanner and Brose while entering the ditch.

Tanner died at the scene and Brose was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford Expedition, Elizabeth Albers, 40, of Owatonna, was transported to an Owatonna hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, Ryan Thoe, 47, of Kasson, was not injured.

Conditions at the time of the crash were reported as “extremely dense fog and extremely icy roads.”

The West Concord Fire Department, West Concord Ambulance, Claremont Fire Department, Dodge Center Fire Department, Dodge Center Ambulance, Minnesota State Patrol, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Dodge County Highway Department and Dodge County Sheriff chaplains also responded to the scene.
