Two bodies were found after a building fire was extinguished in eastern El Paso County over the weekend, sheriff’s officials said.
The El Paso County Fire Marshal’s Office classified the fire as accidental and the sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit is assisting in the death investigation, authorities announced on Monday.

The Montana Vista Fire Department along with sheriff’s deputies responded to a structure fire on Dec. 6 in the 4000 block of Ballard Street in a desert area east of Horizon City, officials said. After the fire was extinguished, two bodies were recovered. A cause of death has not been disclosed. The identities of the people who died have not been released.
With colder weather approaching, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to keep safety in mind when heating their homes.
“It is important to remember that using ovens and stoves to heat your residence is extremely dangerous because the risks can lead to safety hazards such as explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Residents are also advised to utilize carbon monoxide detectors.
