2 sizes too small? Truck overloaded with Christmas decor a Grinch-like scene in California

The driver of a Honda pickup truck, stacked high with holiday decorations, a Santa figurine and Christmas trees, was recently pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer.

The Honda was traveling southbound on Highway 99 in Central California when the CHP officer pulled the vehicle over for carrying an unsafe load, which caused debris to fly off onto the roadway, authorities posted to social media on Wednesday.

The driver of a Honda pickup truck, stacked high with holiday decorations, a Santa figurine and Christmas trees, was recently pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer.

After seeing the photo of the overloaded truck on the Madera CHP social media page, several Facebook followers, including Joe Snow, said the driver was probably “Returning the toys back to Whoville,” referring to the Grinch’s overloaded sled from the Dr. Seuss book and inspired film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”

With the truck stacked at least 10 feet high with items, including a Christmas tree topped with a gold star, Brian Richards said, “That’s so impressive they deserve a pass.”

Beware of flying debris

The California Highway Patrol is using the photo to remind drivers not to exceed their vehicle’s load capacity and to secure their load.

“An improperly secured load isn’t just a hazard for you — it’s a danger to everyone on the road,” CHP officials stated. “Flying debris can force other drivers to take evasive action, increasing the risk of serious crashes.”

Other safety tips by the CHP include:

  • Use appropriate tie-downs or covers.

  • Double-check your load before driving.

  • Stay within your vehicle’s weight limits.

Unsafe loads can lead to hefty fines — or worse, tragedy, CHP officials said.

Authorities shared no further details about the incident.
