A $20,000 reward is being offered to help solve the fatal shooting of a teenager in New Haven earlier this month.
The reward money is being funded by an anonymous donor in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing 17-year-old Daily Jackson on Dec. 3, according to Officer Christian Bruckhart of the New Haven Police Department.
Bruckhart said the money has no ties to the police department or the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, though he said both entities are aware of the reward and have no objections to it.
Jackson, who was a student at Riverside Academy, was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting as he was walking along Shelton Avenue just after 6:40 p.m., police said. The teen, who lived nearby, was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital where he died.
Investigators have said they believe the shooting was a targeted attack. Authorities also said Jackson was friends with fellow Riverside classmate 16-year-old Uzziah Shell, who was shot and killed on Nov. 22 on Goffe Street.
New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson told reporters at a news briefing after Jackson’s killing that both Jackson and Shell had been feuding with other groups of teens and young adults in the city. He said both killings are believed to be tied to the ongoing disputes, which police believe led to additional incidents including other shootings.
Jacobson said officials worked to move one family out of the city over safety concerns and that they were working to move two more out as a precaution.
Anyone with information has been asked to call New Haven detectives at 203-946-6304 or the police department’s anonymous tip line at 866-888-TIPS (8477).
