A man, woman and two preteens were found dead in a Silicon Valley apartment Tuesday night and investigators are trying to figure out what happened to them.
Family members of the victims called police on Tuesday and said they hadn’t heard from them in a few days, which wasn’t normal, said Lt. Tyler Jamison of the Milpitas Police Department.
Family members asked authorities to conduct a welfare check and police found the four victims around 9 p.m. Tuesday inside the unit in Milpitas, about 65 miles southwest of Stockton, Jamison told USA TODAY Thursday morning.
Police weren’t able to confirm the victims’ ages because they are waiting for the Santa Clara County Coroner to complete examinations, Jamison said.
When asked if the victims are all related, Jamison could not give an answer.
“Once the coroner identifies the deceased, we will be able to kind of piece all that stuff together,” Jamison said.
Deaths reported in quiet area, neighbor says
The man, woman and two preteens were found at a new luxury apartment complex that’s pretty quiet, television station KGO-TV reported. Community members told the outlet they were saddened over the victims’ deaths.
Police told the outlet there have been no other calls at the apartment, and they did not say if there was a weapon in the home.

“At this time, all the evidence suggests it was an isolated incident and there’s no ongoing threat to public safety,” Jamison, from the police department, told the television station. “This investigation is ongoing.”
Community member Jerry Saldana told the television station that his family lives there in a unit above the apartment the victims were found in.
“Not knowing any information, it’s concerning,” he said. “Gotta appreciate everyone and make sure you stay safe in your own home, I guess. It’s sad to think something like that happened so close. It breaks my heart.”
