A 49-year-old man accused of shooting his stepson in Celina is claiming that it was in self-defense.

News Center 7 previously reported, that police responded to the 600 block of N. Sugar Street around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 3 on reports of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, police found 25-year-old Christopher Magnus with a gunshot wound to the back.
His stepfather, 49-year-old Samuel Paul was identified as the shooter by a witness and was taken into custody.
Magnus was taken to Mercer Health where he was flown to a Dayton area hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition is not known at this time.
Paul is now claiming that the shooting was an act of self-defense.
In a notice filed in Mercer County Court of Common Pleas on Dec. 5, Paul stated that Magnus had made threats to harm Paul in the days before the shooting.
Paul also claimed in the notice that Magnus broke into his home by climbing through the window just before the shooting, along with initiating a physical confrontation and shoving Paul.
Paul claims that he feared for his safety and acted in self-defense.
At this time, Paul remains in Mercer County Jail and is facing two counts of attempted murder and three counts of felonious assault.
