5 THINGS TO KNOW: Speed limits to change on U.S. 69 Frontage Roads

Jan. 14—The City of McAlester, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the McAlester Police Department announce upcoming changes to speed limits on the U.S. Highway 69 Frontage Roads.

1 What frontage roads are changing?

The affected area spans between Fourteenth Street and Wade Watts Avenue.

2 What is the new speed limit for Southbound traffic?

Posted speed limit will be 35 mph from the Wade Watts Avenue corridor to 0.13 miles south of Peaceable Road, where the speed will increase to 40 mph south for 0.36 miles to the end of the frontage road.

3 What is the Northbound speed limit?

Posted speeds will be 40 mph from Fourteenth Street north for 1 mile, where the speed limit will drop to 35 mph north to the Wade Watts Avenue corridor.

4 Why the adjustments?

These adjustments are part of a joint effort to improve traffic safety and enhance the flow of vehicles in this area.

5 When will the changes go into effect?

Speed limit signs in this section will soon be updated to reflect the changes. Please exercise caution and adhere to the new speed limits as signs are installed.
