A 73-year-old Burney man was arrested Monday on suspicion of robbing a Redding bank and then leading police on a chase through town.
Police said that at about 10:30 a.m. officials at the Banner Bank at 880 E. Cypress Ave. reported that a man with a gun robbed the bank of cash and then drove off in a white Chevrolet pickup, heading east on Cypress Avenue.
Police caught up to the truck and attempted to stop the driver, identified as Dana Schultz of Burney, but he drove away at a high rate of speed as officers chased him through west Redding, police said.
The pursuit ended when the driver crashed into a Redding police patrol vehicle near the dead-end of Sunglow Drive, in the Country Heights subdivision, police said.
Schultz was arrested, questioned by police detectives and then booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of robbery, evading police, driving in the opposite direction of traffic, resisting arrest and having a concealed weapon in his vehicle, police said.
