After green Christmas, central Ohio to get near-record warmth this weekend

The holidays in Central Ohio this year haven’t gotten close to resembling a white Christmas and it’s only getting warmer.

Columbus could have a high near 62 degrees on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service’s forecast.

As of Friday morning, the NWS was forecasting that Saturday in Columbus will be cloudy with patchy drizzle and a chance of precipitation at 20%.

If Saturday reaches 62 degrees, it would not be the warmest Dec. 28 that Columbus has ever seen. The highest temperature on record for the date in Columbus was 68 degrees in 1984, according to the National Weather Service.

What’s the forecast for New Year’s

Colder weather is predicted for New Year’s in Columbus.

The NWS is forecasting a high near 53 degrees on Tuesday, New Year’s Eve and rain with a 90% chance of precipitation. Overnight, rain is likely mainly before 1 am.

On New Year’s Day, there’s a chance of snow with a high near 40 degrees and a chance of precipitation of 40%, according to the NWS’ forecast as of Friday morning.
