Jefferson County Public School students and staff have had an especially long winter break this year, with the return to school after the holidays yet to happen thanks to Winter Storm Blair. The more than 10 inches of snow that have fallen on the city, alongside sleet and freezing temps, have made getting to and from school buildings an unsafe feat.
After five missed days, there is a chance the last day of school for students will not happen on May 23, as previously planned.
Students already missed a day of school in September due to forecasted inclement weather. But rather than extending the school year, board members voted in December to forgive the day for students. Employees were set to make up the day of work the week of May 27.

Now, that could all change.
“It’s going to be a board decision on if they approve forgiving any of all of the days we’ve used,” JCPS spokeswoman Carolyn Callahan said.
The next board meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 26.
