Akron police investigating shooting death of man who barged into Garden Court home

A 24-year-old man died early Sunday morning from an apparent gunshot wound on the 1900 block of Garden Court in Akron

Akron police were called at just before 4 a.m. to a shooting at the Garden Court residence. Responding officers found the 24-year-old and called EMS, which transported him to a local hospital. He later died from his injuries.

According to Akron police, officers detained multiple people at the scene, including the suspected shooter. From interviews, the police were told that the 24-year-old and another man reportedly knocked on the door of the residence. They rushed in when the door was opened and, once inside, the 24-year-old assaulted another man, 23.

During the altercation, a 19-year-old male in the residence grabbed his gun and fired one shot, striking the 24-year-old man. The 24-year-old left the apartment and collapsed outside.

The 19-year-old and others interviewed were released by detectives, and the case is still under investigation.
