Albo finally visits firebombed synagogue

Anthony Albanese has visited the Melbourne Adass Israel Synagogue five days after the place of worship was firebombed in a suspected act of terrorism.

The early Friday morning blaze left the synagogue in Ripponlea in Melbourne’s southeast gutted, and was condemned internationally.

The Prime Minister greeted Jewish orthodox members at the synagogue at about 1pm on Tuesday, after vowing to visit the synagogue on Monday.

Local federal member Josh Burns, who is Jewish himself, was also seen in attendance.

Mr Albanese met one of the men who was inside the synagogue praying at the time of the attack.

“4.15am is very early. I get up early but that is very early,” Mr Albanese joked.

During the visit, he said Australia’s multiculturalism had to be nurtured and protected.

“It’s one of the wonderful things about this country, is you can live in Australia and experience different cultures, different faiths, beliefs and be enriched by which is why we have to cherish it, why we have to nurture it,” he said.

More to come.
