FREEHOLD — An Allentown man was charged with attempted murder in connection to a New Year’s Eve shooting on Johnson Drive, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
Daniel Williams, 52, is charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
The endangering charge is due to a child being in the home at the time of the shooting, according to the prosecutor.
At 12:51 p.m. New Year’s Eve, Allentown Police and other law enforcement agencies responded to Johnson Drive for a gunshot victim, where they discovered a woman with a single, non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to Santiago. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to authorities.
Allentown Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Bureau investigated and said Williams was responsible for the shooting, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
During the search for Williams, authorities asked Allentown residents to shelter-in-place.
Williams was arrested later that evening and taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold, where he remains pending his first court appearance.
