Hearst Television president calls Smith ‘accomplished news leader’

Michael J. Hayes, Hearst Television president, called Smith “an accomplished news leader who has demonstrated success in every opportunity she has earned,” KCCI reported.

Smith is not a stranger to Nebraska, KCCI reported. She graduated from Waverly High School before moving to Iowa to attend Drake University. Smith’s career began in journalism at KCCI as a news producer.

Before returning to KCCI as its news director, Smith worked at stations in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In 2023, Broadcasting & Cable magazine named Smith News Director of the Year.
