Carl Huber Sr., a Southern Indiana entrepreneur, and co-founder of Huber’s Orchard & Winery, has died. He was 84. A statement on the winery’s website announced Huber passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Jan. 4, surrounded by family.
His “contributions to Indiana’s agricultural industry, his dedication and his graciousness to family and community, have left an enduring legacy,” the obituary read.
Born Oct. 25, 1940, Huber Sr. grew up in Starlight, Indiana, where he and his older brother, Gerald, transformed their Borden farm into a winery famous for its apples, pumpkins, ciders, wines and fall festivals. The farm is operated now by the 6th and 7th-generations of the Huber family and includes Starlight Distillery, which released its first brandy in December 2004 and later expanded to include vodka, gin, rum, whiskey and bourbon.

Huber was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, of 58 years. Both attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight, where a funeral mass is scheduled Monday in honor of Huber’s life. A visitation will take place Sunday.
“Carl Sr.’s kindness and integrity will live in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved wife, Linda, and his family who preceded him in death,” his obituary reads.
