Another cold front in store for Treasure Coast; Wind chill in low 30s expected, says NWS

Another cold front settling in Thursday morning may drop temperatures across the Treasure Coasts into the upper 30s with wind chill values making it feel as low as 30 degrees.

It’s what a meteorologist said might be the coldest temperatures, so far, recorded this winter.

“Take precautions,” said meteorologist Derrick Weitlich with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. “Make sure you dress warmly if you’re going out in the morning, (like) kids waiting for school buses.”

The cold front is another in a series of them beginning last week associated with a major winter storm that brought snow and ice to the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states.

People are bundled up, during the early morning hours, to watch the sunrise, fish or exercise, Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, on Hutchinson Island in Martin County. A cold front associated with a winter storm impacting Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states drove low temperatures into the low-to-mid 40s this week, a meteorologist said. With 10-15 mph winds, 40s felt like the mid-30s in some areas of the Treasure Coast.

Temperatures into Thursday morning were forecast in the upper 30s and lower 40s, while northern interior regions of the Treasure Coast were expected to reach what could feel like “30-degrees or below” with winds.

“These would be the coldest temperatures that we’re forecasting for this week, really for the season, so far.” Weitlich said. “Also, behind this, reinforcing front winds are going to be increasing.”

Even coastal areas that mostly stay a few degrees warmer are expected to feel like low 30s with 10-15 mph winds, he said.

The drop is expected to be noticeably cooler than Wednesday morning, which brought lows in the mid-40s to Vero Beach, Fort Pierce and Stuart areas.

Temperatures are expected to warm slightly Friday ahead of another cold front expected over the weekend.
