A blast of Arctic air is expected to arrive in Mississippi soon as the Arctic jet stream pushes farther South than usual and allows air from as far as Siberia to move into the U.S., according to the National Weather Service.
With that, overnight temperatures are expected to plunge in Mississippi next week. According to AccuWeather, Jackson could have temperatures as low as 18 degrees next week and Corinth and Oxford may have temperatures drop to around 13 degrees. Temperatures in parts of the Delta may plunge to 19 and Starkville is expected to hit 14.
Even the Mississippi Coast will take a hit. Biloxi is expected to experience several nights with lows at or below freezing. That may not sound very impressive compared to Oxford’s predicted 13 degrees, but down on the Coast, that’s chilly, y’all.
Will we see records broken? Well, we could possibly see some daily records fall, but all-time lows are going to be hard to beat. Seriously, there are record lows in Mississippi towns and cities that will not only surprise you, you might just shiver thinking about them.
So, below are some of the record lows throughout Mississippi in descending order down to the state’s coldest day in history according to the National Weather Service, NOAA and PlantMaps.com.
