The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate a shooting that occurred Tuesday in which an armed robbery suspect was shot by a law enforcement agent in Athens.
Police did not release information late Tuesday on the condition of the person who was shot, but he was transported to a hospital in Athens for treatment. Names of the wounded suspect or the other suspect were not immediately released.
The shooting occurred at about 2:24 p.m. following the reported robbery on the 400 block of North Avenue, according to a press release from Athens-Clarke police and the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle containing the suspects was identified and was spotted on Commerce Road, where a pursuit ensued, according to the report. The suspects stopped on Newton Bridge Road, where they fled on foot and were pursued by police officers and sheriff’s deputies, officers reported.

During the pursuit, a sheriff’s deputy fired a shot at one of the suspects, the release shows.
Both suspects were apprehended. The suspect who was shot was given medical aid on the scene, before he was transported to a hospital.
Law enforcement also reported that two firearms were located at the scene.
