Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run crash on U.S. 27 in Clermont

CLERMONT — The Florida Highway Patrol received an anonymous tip and arrested a man accused of being the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian waiting by his disabled vehicle in Clermont on Jan. 13.

Just before 7 p.m. on Jan. 13, a car heading south on U.S. 27 toward Margaux Drive in the right lane struck a man waiting by his car on the side of the road while a tow truck started to transport it to another location, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a Thursday news release, the patrol said troopers, acting on an anonymous tip, located the 2015 white Kia Soul in a hotel parking lot Wednesday night. The vehicle had damage consistent with the collision.

Troopers took the vehicle into evidence, and Thursday morning, Charles Millan, 49, of Davenport, arrived at Clermont Police Department to turn himself in, according to the release.

Troopers arrested him on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. He was booked into the Lake County Jail. The case remains an active criminal investigation.
