World-renowned astrophysicist, author and host of PBS NOVA’s spinoff, “NOVA Science Now”, Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is coming to Erie to headline the 2025 Global Summit XVII at the Jefferson Educational Society.
Tyson will give a presentation titled “This Just In: Latest Discoveries in the Universe,” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 at the Bayfront Convention Center at 1 Sassafras St.

A lot of these speakers are looking at the success of the organization if we can handle the audience he would demand,” Dr. Ferki Ferati, president of the Jefferson Educational Society. “Erie has shown us that there is an intellectual thirst that (allows us) to bring in speakers like Dr. Tyson.”
Tyson is director of the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City. He also is a research associate for the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History.

“There is a lot of conversation happening about space,” Dr. Ferati said. “Earth-like planets, the feasibility of future travel of humans, are there really aliens on Earth? … we wanted to bring in someone who actually studies the field and has an ability to communicate with the general audience about what is really happening.”
