B.C. is enduring one of its driest Januarys on record

We’re in the midst of an exceptionally dry pattern across British Columbia lately, a stark turnaround from the consistent stretch of wet weather that washed over the province to end 2024.

Conditions aren’t in any hurry to turn around. In fact, we’re on track to record one of Vancouver’s driest Januarys ever observed.

Top 6 Driest Januarys on Record Vancouver

As things stand right now, this is Vancouver’s sixth-driest January on record. The city has only picked up 29.2 mm of rain since the start of the month.

The dry streak is set to continue for much of the rest of January. There’s no significant rainfall in the long-range forecast from Tofino, B.C., all the way down to fire-stricken California.

It’s a pattern that’ll bring an abundance of sunshine—but no fresh powder for skiers and snowboarders looking to enjoy some sunshine on the slopes.

Rainiest January on Record Vancouver

This is an extremely rare pattern for B.C. during the month of January. Just how unusual? Vancouver would normally pick up about 162 mm of rain through the first month of the year. The city’s wettest January on record occurred back in 1935, when the gauges logged nearly 428 mm of precipitation.
