Bloomington, Indiana, weather, closings, road conditions for January snow storm

The first flakes of snow began falling as the Bloomington area woke on Sunday morning to what is expected to be a day-long winter storm.

8 a.m. update

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis predicts heavy snow will begin around 10 a.m. Snow is expected to fall throughout the day, resulting in accumulations of 3 to 7 inches.

More snow will fall Sunday night and may be mixed with freezing rain. Coupled with wind gusts up to 32 miles an hour, evening and overnight travel could be hazardous, although little ice accumulation is expected.

Snow will continue into Monday morning, with a total storm accumulation of 6 to 14 inches possible.

Bloomington, Indiana Sunday closings

A number of area churches have canceled in-person services for Sunday and many are offering online services only. Check before heading out.

The following establishments have announced Sunday closures:

  • Monroe County YMCA, both branches
