A Brightline train traveling from Orlando to South Florida struck either a person or a vehicle at a railroad crossing in Vero Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the Brightline train that departed from Orlando at 1:50 p.m. Around 3 p.m., as the passenger train was traveling through Vero Beach, the train struck someone or something near the railroad’s intersection with 12th Street.
The train’s horn sounded just as brakes were applied and the train cars came to a stop. Passengers onboard were told there was an “interaction” and that the train would remain stopped until authorities arrived and the train was cleared to continue to South Florida.
There was no immediate information available on if the train struck a person or vehicle, though passengers didn’t feel any type of collision.
It is not known how long the train might be delayed or the impact the incident might have on other northbound or southbound Brighline trains.
