A California man died Sunday in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 22 East near Stayton, Oregon State Police said.
At 7:13 a.m., police responded to a report of a crash near milepost 15 just past Fern Ridge Road SE.
A preliminary investigation found an eastbound Dodge Challenger driven by Jerome Francis Hurley, 45, of Camarillo, California, left the road and struck a tree, police said.
Hurley was taken to a medical facility and pronounced dead.
Police said it was not clear why Hurley drove off the road. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
The highway was impacted for about three hours.
