Carbondale man faces drug, gun charges following investigation

A Carbondale man faces charges after officers found guns and drugs during a search of his residence, police said.

Starting at the end of December, Carbondale K-9 Officer Robert Williams and Officer Jesse Pruitt along with Mayfield Police Chief Joseph Perechinsky and members of the Lackawanna County Drug Task Force launched an undercover investigation into Vincent Guida selling cocaine out of his residence at 106 Cottage St., Apt. 1, police said. Then, after conducting controlled purchases of cocaine from Guida, officers obtained a search warrant for his residence, according to a criminal complaint.

On Saturday, officers executed the warrant on Guida’s home and found three rifles, one pistol, additional ammunition, approximately 57 grams of cocaine, 23 grams of marijuana, illegal prescription medication, and more than $3,000 cash, police said.

Guida – a convicted felon – was sentenced in a 1997 burglary case in New York, making it illegal for him to possess firearms, police said. He also was charged related to felony drug sales in New York, though no disposition has been recorded in the case, per the criminal complaint.

Guida also continually made statements to police that he was selling drugs to pay his bills, officers said.

Police charged Guida, 47, with possession of firearms prohibited, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of controlled substances, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

As of Monday, Guida remained in prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 16 at 9:45 a.m.
