The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) is asking the public’s help to identify the body of a man recovered from the Savannah River Sunday morning.
At around 10:25 a.m. on Jan. 5, remains were found in the river near Ursula Island, according to an emailed press release from CCPD Public Information Officer Betsy Nolen.
“The unidentified Caucasian male appears to have been between 60 and 70 years old, weighed 165 lbs. and was 5’8” tall,” Nolen added. “The man had a long, white beard and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a black beanie on his head. He had a distinctive tattoo on his left bicep…”

An autopsy is pending. The autopsy will determine the man’s cause of death and whether any foul play may have been involved.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact police. Anonymous tips can be sent through the Chatham County Police Department app, or the Department’s online tip form found here. Citizens can also call Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020, where tipsters are anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward, according to the press release.
