Child firefighters rescued dies days after house fire in Camden Wyoming

A juvenile has died following a house fire last week in Camden Wyoming, Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office announced today.

Authorities said the fire occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 7, shortly after 5:45 p.m., at a home in the 200 block of Wynsome Boulevard in Camden Wyoming. When Camden Wyoming Fire Company along with multiple other mutual aid fire companies responded to the scene, they found heavy fire coming from the garage of the occupied residence.

When firefighters learned that a juvenile was trapped inside, they immediately began search operations. The juvenile was found inside the residence and transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus by EMS and Kent County Paramedics. The child was then airlifted to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington in critical condition.

Officials confirmed the child died on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Two other children managed to escape the residence unharmed. An adult occupant was treated for minor injuries at a hospital. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Investigators noted that working smoke detectors in the residence alerted the occupants to the fire, potentially saving the lives of the other occupants.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
