City of Midland to host groundbreaking for largest planned Costco in Texas

Dec. 9—The City of Midland will have a groundbreaking at 10 a.m. Dec. 10 for the Costco store that will be built northwest of the intersection of State Highway 191 and State Highway 158.

SH 191 access road will be closed to the public. Attendees will be able to park on the left lane (south side) of the access road closest to the site. There will be a large tent that attendees will be able to see.

The Midland City Council approved an agreement in August that will bring a 174,000-square-foot facility (the largest in Texas) to west Midland. The project overview calls for a $50 million capital investment and construction to be finished by Aug. 31, 2026.

City of Midland officials have stated that Costco is a top-requested amenity in Midland. City leadership and the Midland Development Corp. responded by working together to bring a project that will improve Midland’s quality of life. The Costco project is expected to help make the State Highway 191 corridor prime for high-quality retail development. The land where Costco will be developed is currently empty, generating no taxes and no economic activity. Incentives for this project catalyze future development.

“Costco is a destination retail opportunity. With the nearest Costco two hours away, Midland is poised to capture a market of more than 330k in the Midland-Odessa area,” the city previously reported.
