The historic St. Augustine and St. Johns County Visitor Information Center is going to be renovated and restored because of state grant funding.

According to a news release, St. Augustine recently received a $3.6 million grant from the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources for renovations and repairs to several city buildings listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, which includes the VIC.

Starting on Jan. 27, the VIC will have a modified floor plan of daily operations.

This is the project timeline:

  • Jan. 27-Feb. 4, 2025: Modified operations for preparation and removal of artifacts and displays, temporary closure of Gift shop.

  • Feb. 5-11, 2025: VIC full closure for treating and sealing of the new heart pine flooring.

  • Feb. 5-14, 2025: Return of artifacts, display set-up, and Gift Shop restoration.

  • Feb.15, 2025: Resume VIC normal operations.
