Cleveland County man found dead in his prison cell

Timothy Beaver

A man serving 17 years in prison for a habitual felon conviction in Cleveland County took his life Saturday, according to a press release from the N.C. Department of Public Safety.

Timothy W. Beaver was found unresponsive in his cell around 7 a.m. In the Nash Correctional Institution.

Prison medical staff attempted to revive Beaver, but the 43-year-old was pronounced dead at 7:25 a.m.

Local law enforcement and the N.C. Office of Chief Medical Examiner have been notified and are investigating, as required in these circumstances. The press release Saturday said Beaver’s death was an apparent suicide.

Beaver was convicted in Cleveland County in 2011 and was due for release in September 2025. His most recent convictions leading up to the habitual felon determination were for possession stolen goods, larceny and breaking and entering.
