Commanders claim K.J. Osborn on waivers

The Steelers won’t have a chance to add K.J. Osborn to their receiving corps.

The Commanders have claimed Osborn on waivers, a day after he was released by the Patriots. The move comes on the same day coach Dan Quinn announced that receiver Noah Brown will likely miss the rest of the season with a “serious internal injury.”

It’s unknown, for now, whether the Steelers made a waivers claim for Osborn. The Commanders are higher in the pecking order for players who are waived.

The Commanders will assume the balance of Osborn’s contract with the Patriots, letting them off the hook for any future responsibility. It’s unclear how much the Patriots would have owed in termination pay, given that Osborn was released with a non-injury settlement. Osborn could have waived part of all of his right to collect the balance of his salary, as a vested veteran who was on the Week 1 active roster.

Osborn had only seven catches or 57 yards and one touchdown in seven games with the Patriots.
