Commissioners reorganize, maintain leadership roles for 2025

Lackawanna County’s majority commissioners will maintain their respective leadership roles on the three-member board this year, the second of their administration.

At a brief reorganization meeting Monday, commissioners Bill Gaughan, Matt McGloin and Chris Chermak voted unanimously to keep Gaughan as board chairman and McGloin as vice chairman for 2025. The Democrats held those same roles last year, with Chermak serving as the county’s Republican minority commissioner.

Members also voted unanimously to maintain the same meeting schedule this year, with meetings taking place the first and third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. The first business meeting of the year will take place Wednesday morning in the fifth-floor conference room of the county government center, 123 Wyoming Ave., Scranton.

Agendas for county meetings are posted online in advance of the sessions and can be reviewed by visiting lackawannacounty.org and clicking the “agendas and minutes” link under the “public records” drop-down list at the top of the website. Commissioners meetings are also broadcast by ECTV and streamed live on ECTV’s YouTube channel.

Monday’s reorganization meeting lasted just over five minutes and featured little commentary from the commissioners, though Chermak noted he’s “committed to making this year as productive and impactful as possible for the people of Lackawanna County.”

“I look forward to working hard to tackle the challenges before us while ensuring we create opportunities to serve our residents,” he said. “Let’s make 2025 a year of progress and positive change for the community.”
