United Way announces 2025 Community Connections Resource Fair and Utility Blitz
Discover valuable resources and connect with local organizations at the 2025 Community Connections Resource Fair and Utility Blitz. Mark your calendar now for the event, scheduled to take place Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center South Exhibit Hall.
The event brings together individuals, families, and community partners to provide assistance, share information, and offer support. The Community Connections Resource Fair is an excellent opportunity for attendees to explore a variety of local programs, seek assistance with essential services, and gain insight into available community resources.
The Utility Blitz will provide assistance with electric and gas bills only, offering support through programs provided by Panhandle Community Services, The Salvation Army, and United Way of Amarillo & Canyon. Applications will be taken on site, and the following requirements must be met:

“He is friendly and good with other dogs. Baxter has been an indoor/outdoor pet. He is crate trained and may have had a bit of training in some commands. He is kind of a ham, and is an active and playful boy.”

Region 16 counselors honored with CREST awards
The Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) proudly recognizes two exceptional school counseling departments from Region 16 as recipients of the prestigious Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) Award. This honor highlights their outstanding school counseling programs and commitment to excellence in serving students and their communities.
The 2024 CREST Award recipients from Region 16 are Hereford ISD: Bena Blasscock, Abrie Castillo and Kalyn Taylor; and Dumas ISD: Lisa Hatley and Tonie Crawford.
The counselors in these districts have demonstrated exemplary dedication to fostering student success through innovative counseling strategies, effective communication, and measurable results, a news release says. The CREST Award will be presented to the counselors during the Panhandle School Leaders Association (PSLA) meeting on Feb. 12 at 9 a.m. at Region 16’s Bell St. Campus. (5800 Bell St. in Amarillo). The counselors will also be recognized on Feb. 7 at the Counselor Celebration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Region 16.

Ascension Academy’s Jackpot Jamboree promises to be a night of excitement
Ascension Academy will host a brand new fundraiser with a Vegas theme on Feb. 22 at the Amarillo Art Institute in Sunset Center.
