Jan. 10—WASHINGTON DC — A bipartisan bill introduced into the 119 Congress would provide nationwide reciprocity for concealed carry license holders and for residents of Constitutional Carry states, one of its supporters said Thursday.
After being sworn into the 119th Congress, U.S. Carol Miller, R-WV, joined U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., and over 120 of their colleagues in introducing the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, according to a press release from Miller’s offfice. This bipartisan legislation would provide nationwide reciprocity for concealed carry license holders and for residents of Constitutional Carry states.
“The fundamental right to bear arms and defend oneself should not be determined by the state you live in. I joined Congressman Hudson and 120 of our colleagues in introducing the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act which allows Americans with concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal carry in every state. I am hopeful that this bill will pass in the House of Representatives and the Senate, and be signed into law by President Trump,” Miller said.
“Our Second Amendment right does not disappear when we cross invisible state lines, and this commonsense legislation guarantees that” Hudson added about the proposed legislation.
pro-Second Amendment organizations, including the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA), Gun Owners of America (GOA), the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), Miller said.
The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act allows people with state-issued concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal a handgun in any other state. It also allows residents of Constitutional Carry states to carry in other states.
In December 2017, the bill was passed by the House with bipartisan support, yet it was not taken up in the Senate. President Donald Trump has committed to signing national concealed carry reciprocity legislation into law.
