Jan. 9—The Sanford City Council approved a public hearing for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 for a 165-acre non-contiguous annexation.
During their meeting on Jan. 7, the council heard the request from multiple property owners for the annexation for the Pendergrass Village subdivision. It would be located south of the intersection of Pendergrass Road and Steel Bridge Road, west of Tramway.
REUSE GRANT
Council also approved a contract with the North Carolina Department of Commerce for a $90,000 building reuse grant for Cashion Fishing Rods to relocate from 3915 Hawkins Ave. (Route 501) in Lee County into an industrial section of the city at 3030 Lee Ave. The grant requires a 5% local match.
The grant administrator is the Sanford Area Growth Alliance, according to a council agenda document.
The building project includes $880,000 for the purchase of the building and $448,380 in improvements, plus $120,000 in manufacturing equipment plus other expenses.
Total project cost is $1.795 million. The 20,550-square-foot building was constructed in 1985.
The business expansion, which includes Elevate Outdoors, would create 13 new full-time jobs, according to business owner Matthew Cashion. The businesses currently have a little over 20 employees.
The building at 3030 Lee Ave. was previously Bon-Clyde Training Center for dogs.
