JACKSON TWP. − A crash involving a Jackson Township police cruiser and a suspected shoplifter closed the Everhard Road and Dressler Road NW intersection on Thursday.
Sgt. Bryan Sponaugle with the Ohio Highway Patrol said troopers were called shortly after 5 p.m. to the busy Belden Village-area intersection after a Jackson police cruiser hit the back of a vehicle. He said Jackson officers had been responding to a call about shoplifters at the mall and at least one suspect was in the rear-ended vehicle.
The sergeant said the vehicles sustained minor damage and no one was injured.
Sponaugle did not have information about the suspected shoplifters, including how many people may have been involved or apprehended or what they may have tried to steal. A dispatcher for Jackson Township police referred media calls to the police station, where an automated recording answered the phone.
Sponaugle said troopers left Everhard and Dressler NW around 7 p.m. Thursday.
