A man was arrested on a DUI charge early Monday after state police said they received multiple reports of a driver who was “all over the road” on Interstate 84 in Plainville.
Troopers received several 911 calls shortly after 1:40 a.m. reporting a driver in a black Toyota sedan driving erratically near the Route 72 interchange, according to Connecticut State Police.
The callers described the driver as being “all over the road” in a vehicle with a trunk that was secured with a yellow rope. State police said a sergeant who was in the area stationed themselves in the center median of I-84 in Farmington where the driver was spotted shortly thereafter. The sergeant began following the vehicle and alleged that it was not staying in one lane.
State police said the driver pulled over when prompted to do so on Route 9 South in the area of Exit 39A. The driver, who was identified as 34-year-old Kaylyn Howard of New Britain, allegedly appeared to be impaired and smelled of alcohol, according to state police.
State police alleged that Howard failed field sobriety testing and was taken into custody on charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane on a limited access highway. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear on Dec. 27 in New Britain Superior Court.
