A man was arrested Wednesday on DUI and manslaughter charges in connection with a fatal crash in Waterbury in November.
Luis Martinez, 32, faces charges in a crash on Nov. 10 that killed 22-year-old Jayden Gonzalez, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
Officers around 2:15 a.m. responded to reports of a two-car crash at the intersection of Baldwin Street and Lounsbury Street. Both drivers, identified as Waterbury residents Gonzalez and Martinez, were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
According to Bessette, Gonzalez succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital and was pronounced dead.
The police department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the collision and obtained a warrant for Martinez. He turned himself in on charges of reckless driving, second-degree manslaughter, illegal operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license and illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Martinez was held on a $250,000 bond and was expected to be arraigned on Thursday in Waterbury Superior Court.
