A man was found with a firearm after he was pulled over on Interstate 95 in Old Saybrook over the weekend and charged with DUI, state police said.
A trooper first spotted the motorist on Saturday just before 11:30 p.m. on I-95 North where he was driving a black BMW and allegedly could not stay in one lane, according to Connecticut State Police.
The trooper flipped on the cruiser’s lights and sirens before the driver pulled over on the right shoulder. State police said the trooper found that the vehicle’s registration was expired and that the driver showed signs of being impaired.
The driver, who was identified as 42-year-old Brandon Tanguay of New London, failed field sobriety testing and was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, according to state police. The gun and ammo were both seized.
Tanguay was arrested and transported to Troop F in Westbrook. He faces charges of failure to renew a registration, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to maintain the proper lane on a limited access highway, improper storage of a pistol or revolver in a motor vehicle and illegally carrying of a firearm under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Tanguay was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear on Dec. 20 in Middletown Superior Court.
