A woman tied to a social media account promoting street takeovers in New Haven and other areas of the state was arrested this week.
Kimberly Hueffman, 47, of Milford was charged Tuesday with inciting a riot, according to the New Haven Police Department.
Police said the arrest came after officers assigned to the city’s Real Time Crime Center were monitoring a planned street takeover on Oct. 22 that was being promoted on various social media platforms, including on an Instagram account named “Finnalwarrning.” According to police, the account was reportedly found to be “repeatedly announcing and facilitating illegal street takeovers” in New Haven and other areas of the state.
The takeovers led to “significant disturbances,” blocked roads and dangerous conditions, police said. Authorities obtained a warrant for Hueffman’s arrest after finding that she was allegedly running the “Finnalwarrning” account, according to police.
“Street takeovers are illegal and unsafe for participants, the public and responding officers,” New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson said in a statement. “We are not going to tolerate this behavior. We will continue to aggressively disrupt them as they are happening by using stop sticks to deflate tires of vehicles, arrest participants and spectators. Even if you think you got away, we will make arrests by warrant for anyone we can identify.”
