A major snowstorm is forecast to blanket Delaware, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall is expected to begin Sunday night and continue through Monday, with rates potentially reaching 1 inch per hour.
Travel is likely to be challenging, with hazardous conditions impacting both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Slippery roads are also expected to affect the Tuesday morning commute.
In anticipation of the inclement weather, organizations have begun announcing cancellations and closings. As the storm progresses, check back for updates:
Public schools
Sussex Technical High School – will operate on a Remote Learning Day on Jan. 6. Campus will be closed.
Universities
No university has announced it’s closing.
Governments
Wilmington has delayed its trash collection. No trash pickup Monday, Jan. 6. Trash and recyclables now will be collected on a modified schedule:

Tuesday, Jan. 7: East of I-95 trash collection

Wednesday, Jan. 8: West of I-95 trash collection

Thursday, Jan. 9: East of I-95 recyclables collection

Friday, Jan. 10: West of I-95 recyclables collection
Delaware courts
Delaware courts have not announced their closing.
Community organizations
Food Bank of Delaware – Both Newark and Milford locations are closed Jan. 6
Neighborhood House, Inc. – The Southbridge location is closed Jan. 6
Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, Inc. – Treatment centers in Dover, Milford and Georgetown will be closed on Jan. 6. These locations are open on Sunday, Jan. 5, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for clients to pick up their Monday medication. Downstate clients are strongly urged to pick-up medication on Sunday, however, if necessary, medications can be picked up at the Lancaster Avenue or Newark Treatment Centers on Monday, Jan. 6 from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. All other BCCS services, including mobile services, will be closed on Jan. 6.
