‘DeSanta Claus’ delivers early with extra days off for state workers this holiday season

“DeSanta” strikes again.

Coming off his giving state workers what amounted to a five-day Thanksgiving weekend, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Tuesday announced he was repeating it this month.

“In addition to Christmas Day and New Years Day, our state workers will get three extra days off—December 23, 24 and 31—to spend more time with their families and loved ones this holiday season,” he posted on X.

That gives workers a 5-day weekend going into Christmas, including Christmas Day.

Then the next week they’ll get New Year’s Eve off (a Tuesday) in addition to New Year’s Day (a Wednesday).

DeSantis has been generous with time off for state workers since taking office, often granting additional time around holidays.

Earlier this year he created a four-day weekend for the 4th of July celebration when he closed state offices on Friday, July 5.

And DeSantis has provided state workers additional paid time off the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s each of the five years he has been in office, closing state offices an additional three days for the two holidays last year.
