District Clerk Webster leaving in January

Dec. 11—District Clerk Clarissa Webster will resign in January for the position of Court Consultant working with the Texas Office of Court Administration.

Webster is in her third four-year term as Ector County’s district clerk. Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett said Wednesday that by statute the District Judges will name a replacement.

He said because Webster’s resignation comes more than halfway through her term the judges will name a replacement rather than a special election.

Filing to run for her seat will begin in late 2025 for the 2026 election.

Webster is a Republican who Fawcett said has done an amazing job in Ector County. “She is just amazing and she is so well-respected throughout the state.”

Webster defeated Chris Bryson in 2022 for her third term.

She posted on Facebook Tuesday: “I have loved serving as your District Clerk and I already know that I will miss — tremendously miss — serving and working with you and for you in this capacity. However, this is not goodbye, but merely a transition to a new role. “

She wrote her new position provides support and assistance to clerks and courts “all across our great State. While I was not looking for another job, the Texas OCA has presented this new opportunity which I believe to be the best path forward for me and my family at this time. “

She praised her office staff and wrote “they are a strong team who are ready and equipped to continue serving you and your court record needs. They are dedicated to ensuring high quality continuity of court services, and I appreciate your kindness to them throughout this transition.”

Webster graduated from Permian Basin Christian School in 1990 and then continued her education at Pensacola Christian College and then received her certification as a paralegal from the National Association of Legal Assistants in 2007.

When Webster was first elected to the position of district clerk, she was tasked with moving records from paper to digital. All documents from court proceedings, whether it’s criminal or civil, are scanned and put into the Ector County Portal.
