Will Nashville experience a white Christmas in 2024? What forecasters say

It’s unlikely that Nashville will receive snowfall on Christmas Day.

Certain weather conditions must be in place for snow to fall. According to NASA’s National Snow and Ice Data Center, snowfall is reliant on moisture being present in the atmosphere as well as the correct temperatures.

Snow forms when the atmospheric temperature is at or below freezing (32 F). If the ground temperature is at or below freezing, the snow will reach the ground. As a general rule, snow will not form if the ground temperature is at least 41 F, reported the center.

According to the National Weather Service, Tennessee will experience above average temperatures throughout the end of the year, as previously forecasted by the Climate Prediction Center. Between Dec. 14-27, temperatures are expected to be 55- 60% above average. In December, Nashville experiences average highs of 52 and average lows of 33.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac does not foresee a white Christmas for Tennessee, either.

According to the 2024 Christmas forecast, snow will fall mainly in the central region of the United States, while the rest of the country experiences a “milder, gentler winter than average.”

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac “White Christmas Weather Forecast 2024,” Tennessee will not experience a white Christmas.

“Don’t expect high odds in the Plains, Mid-Atlantic, the South, Texas-Oklahoma, Missouri, or western and central Tennessee,” wrote the Old Farmer’s Almanac. “We’re talking very low chances (perhaps 20%).”
