Dec. 19—OTTAWA — Putnam County law enforcement found a man who wandered away from a nursing home about 20 minutes after a drone search began Wednesday night, according to a press release from Putnam County Sheriff Brian Siefker. The man was uninjured.
Putnam County 911 received a call at 8:22 p.m. Wednesday from Autumn Court Nursing Home, saying a male resident left on foot and staff couldn’t find him.
The Ottawa Police Department and Ottawa Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to assist with looking for the man without success. Officials contacted the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office’s drone operators to assist at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday, and they arrived at the staging area at 9:33 p.m.
At 9:53 p.m., the drone’s thermal camera found the man in the backyard of a nearby residence, and personnel on foot confirmed it two minutes later. The sheriff’s office didn’t identify the missing man.
The man was uninjured but transported by Ottawa EMS to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima for evaluation.
