Frigid temperatures and the possibility of one to three inches of snow are expected throughout the Upstate on Friday, January 10, causing school districts across the area to make a decision on in-person school and activities over the next two days.
As a precaution to seeing the inclement weather approaching, Upstate-based school districts have announced building closings, postponed athletic events, and canceled field trips and activities due to the area’s first possible snowfall since 2022.

Greenville County School closings
Greenville County Schools will execute an e-learning day on Friday, January 10, as all office buildings and schools will be closed for the day, according to Tim Waller, director of media relations for Greenville County Schools.
“Because we are an approved e-learning district, this day will not have to be made up, and instruction will be provided through Google Classroom,” Waller said. “Students will complete e-learning assignments later if they are unable to participate due to power outages, lack of internet service, or other barriers.”
Greenville County Schools have confirmed that once normal school operations resume, individual school personnel will reschedule events as appropriate. Each school will contact parents and students regarding the specifics of the upcoming e-learning process.
In addition, all athletic events, field trips and after-school activities are also canceled on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11, as the District’s Inclement Conditions Evaluation (ICE) Team determined that based on the predictions and timing for snow and/or ice accumulation, the roads may be in unsafe conditions. The possibility of downed power lines and loss of power confirmed their decision when evaluating the forecast.
