Earthquake hits Northwest Louisiana; Here’s the magnitude affected areas

On Sunday, Jan. 5 at 11:09 p.m., an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 occurred in Northwest Louisiana, around 3.7 miles Southeast of Mooringsport.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake occurred at an estimated depth of 3.1 miles.

Earthquake in Northwest Louisiana

The earthquake was reportedly felt by some Louisiana residents near the quake’s epicenter, as well as by some Texas residents near the Texas-Louisiana state line.

Areas near the earthquake’s epicenter include Mooringsport, Shreveport, Bossier City, Marshall, Texas and Little Rock, Arkansas.

Several earthquakes have been recently reported in north Louisiana.

Reports describing the earthquake recorded weak or light effects and no damages.

Since 2024, Louisiana has had 13 recorded earthquakes, with five having a magnitude above 3 and eight having a magnitude between two and three.
