Elderly man caught on video allegedly keying Tesla in ‘atrocious’ act in affluent Aussie suburb

A victim of an alleged car-keying incident has been overwhelmed with messages of support after sharing video of an elderly man appearing to attack her dad’s Tesla with a key.

The footage was shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) after the alleged incident in the affluent Sydney suburb of Rose Bay in Sydney on Sunday.

The vision captured by the car’s motion detection cameras shows an elderly man approach the Tesla Model Y parked outside Hotel Rose Bay. He looks around before holding out what appears to be a key and dragging it briefly along the car.

Deon Tsang who shared the video said it was her dad’s car which was parked at Rose Bay while they were working. She said the alleged offender is always bullying and teasing her every time she “wears Rabbitohs clothing”.

The diehard South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL supporter attracted the sympathy and support of many of her online followers after posting the video.

“Bloody hell Deon, this is atrocious. I hope they find him soon!” one said.

“Thank you to everyone for all your support and all your kind words you have said to me and my dad,” she responded on Monday, adding that they have been able to pass onto police the alleged offender’s name and address.

NSW Police confirmed to Yahoo News that officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command are investigating the matter which reportedly took place at 9.40am on Sunday.

Earlier this year a 70-year-old man and his wife pleaded guilty to charges of wilful damage after keying a Tesla car at a Brisbane shopping centre. The court was told Raymond Edwards also keyed a white BMW parked next to the Tesla. They said it was in response to being cut off by a driver and the couple were ordered to pay almost $5,000 in damages.

In October another elderly man was allegedly caught keying a Tesla at an Adelaide shopping centre. In March an elderly man was caught keying a parked car in Melbourne, while another Tesla in NSW was keyed in September.
