CLIFTON — An Elmwood Park man was shot and killed Friday after an altercation that began in the street in the area of Lakeview and Merselis avenues just before midnight.
Police arrested Angel Pacheco, 67, from Clifton.
Pacheco was charged with murder, a first-degree crime, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, both second-degree crimes, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a release.
Clifton police were called to the area at 11:47 p.m. on Friday.
The victim, Robert Rogers, 51, of Elmwood Park, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Rogers exited his vehicle and approached a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck that was stopped at a red light at the intersection, the release said.
An altercation ensued between Rogers and the driver of the pickup truck, later identified by detectives as Pacheco. During the fight, Pacheco pulled out a gun and shot Rogers, according to police.
Pacheco was arrested without incident. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion for pre-trial detention that will be heard by a Superior Court judge at a date and time to be determined by the court.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. More information will be released once it becomes available.
