Jan. 15—SUGAR NOTCH — Residents in most of Sugar Notch and parts of Warrior Run woke up to no water Wednesday due to a main break on Main Street near Brook Street.

The break occurred late Tuesday night in front of the Bell House Winery, the former Holy Family R.C. Church.

Crews were seen working in frigid temperatures to repair the break late Tuesday night and again early Wednesday morning. Temperatures dipped into the mid-teens with wind chills in the single digits overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, N.Y.

Main Street between Brook and Oak streets is closed to traffic.

Pennsylvania American Water reported customers were notified about the main break just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.

“This is an urgent notification from American Water. Our crews are making emergency repairs due to a main break beginning on Jan. 15 in Sugar Notch. You reside in the affected area and may experience discolored or cloudy water, low water pressure or no water. Repairs are expected to take approximately eight hours to complete. When work is completed, you may experience temporary changes in your water.

For discoloration, run cold water at the lowest level of your house. For cloudy water, run water at the highest level of your house. The condition should clear after three to five minutes of running water,” according to the alert message sent by Pennsylvania American Water.

The message does not mention whether homeowners and renters should boil their water when service is restored.

Estimated time to complete repairs is 12 p.m. Wednesday.
